A stone’s throw from the vibrant, neon glow of downtown Tokyo hides peaceful Zen gardens pictures of simplicity and calm. Contemporary art museums flank centuries-old Buddhist temples and skyscrapers erupt from cityscapes a bullet train ride away from the towering natural wonder of Mount Fuji. For the culturally curious, Japan is a hub of adventure waiting to be uncovered. International flights not included.

Day 1 Arrive Tokyo
After welcoming you, your assistant can help you deal with various procedures such as handing over documents, buy train or bus tickets, exchange the Japan Rail Pass voucher for the actual pass, exchange currencies, buy a SIM card or rent a mobile phone. You will be escorted to the boarding point for the shared shuttle bus. On arrival at your hotel, you will be provided with an IC card to be used for buses and trains with 1500Y value already loaded. Day 2 Tour of Tokyo Take a day tour of this fascinating city with a local guide, making use of Tokyo’s comprehensive and user friendly public transport system. The day begins with a visit to Meiji Shrine, a shrine dedicated to the deified spirit of Emperor Meiji and a popular place for traditional Japanese weddings. Take a walk down Omotesando shopping street, a broad tree lined avenue home to the flagship stores of the world’s top fashion brands. Head across town to Asakusa, Tokyo’s old town and soak in the atmosphere of the Tokyo of old. Visit Sensoji, Tokyos oldest temple and wander down Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries. Take a boat cruise on the Sumida River passing under 12 bridges. Disembark in Hamarikyu garden, an Edo Period Japanese garden surrounded by the Shiodome district’s futuristic skyscrapers, a great example of how Japan is the land of contrasts. Stop for a cup of steaming matcha and Japanese sweets in a tea house on a small island in the park’s lake before returning to your hotel.

Day 3 Day at leisure Full day free to explore Tokyo. Or perhaps take advantage of Japan’s fantastic public transportation to travel further afield to Nikko, Kamakura or Yokohama. Head into the mountains of Nikko to discover the natural wonders of Japan alongside worldheritage shrines and temples. Combine Nikko with a trip to the Kawaji hot springs to truly get away from it all. Kamakura, just 1 hour south of Tokyo, is the ancient city of the samurai and boasts not only mountains, but a beautiful coastline too. For a taste of smaller city life venture south to Yokohama to spend time by the bay and explore Japan’s largest china town.

Day 4 Tokyo to Hakone Hakone is one of Japan’s most famous hot spring (onsen) areas and rich in unspoilt nature. You will be provided with The 3 Day Hakone Freepass. This is an excursion ticket offering full coverage of the popular sightseeing destinations in Hakone. The Hakone Freepass allows you to get on and off freely within a specified area, as well as providing discount admission to various attractions in the area, and also includes return transportation on the Odakyu Line. Day 5 Hakone touring Spend the days exploring the park with your included Hakone Transport Pass and drift on a pirate ship across the three-thousand year old Lake Ashi or catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji as you ride the ropeway (cable car) above the boiling valley of Owakudani.

Day 6 Hakone to Kyoto Depart Hakone by train to Odawara. Then bullet train to Kyoto. Travel in comfort on Japan’s fast and efficient highspeed rail network. Day 7 Tour of Kyoto Explore the former imperial capital of Japan with a knowledgeable local guide, utilizing Kyoto’s comprehensive bus system to visit some of the city’s famous World Heritage Sites. Start your day with a visit to Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) which was originally built as a retirement villa for the Shogun but, at his request, became a Buddhist Temple after his death. Next, make your way to Nijo Castle, an ornamental castle built by the founder of the Edo Shogunate and surrounded by stunning gardens. famous for its architecture, decorated sliding doors and ‘chirping’ nightingale floors. Then, head to Heian Shrine, built on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the capital’s foundation in Kyoto and is dedicated to the spirits of the first and last emperors who reigned from the city, Emperor Kammu and Emperor Komei. Finally, make a visit to Kiyomizu Temple (Pure Water Temple) and enjoy the panoramic views of Kyoto from the 13 metre high veranda jutting out from the Main Hall. Learn about the interesting history of the building and how both the Main Hall and Veranda were built without the use of nails or any kind of joiners.

Day 8 Day at leisure Full day free to explore Kyoto. Alternatively, why not take a short trip to Nara which has significant temples and artwork dating back to the 8th century when it was Japan’s Capital.

Day 9 Transfer to airport Met at your hotel by your driver and transferred to Osaka Kansai Airport for your onward flight.
