Experience the many faces of Japan, from dazzling streets in Tokyo to antique teahouses in Kyoto. Speed through the countryside on the bullet train and stay in a traditional inn near Mount Fuji. Delight in a tea ceremony and walk the absorbing streets of Takayama. Discover the thriving geisha culture and take a touching trip to Hiroshima. Leave with a heartfelt understanding of this mysterious land. Maximum group size of 16. Departure dates on request. International flights are not included.

Days 1-3: Tokyo & Hakone

Be met at the airport on your arrival in Tokyo. A carefully crafted walking tour immerses you in the tantalizing streets of Tokyo. Look down on the city from the Tokyo Tower and take a stunning river cruise to Asakusa. After an early morning trip to the massive Tsukiji Fish Market, travel by train to Hakone, a picturesque town famous for its hot springs and natural beauty. From your base at a Japanese-style inn, cruise on Lake Ashi-no for a chance to spot majestic Mount Fuji. Hotels: Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa, Hakone Yumoto Hotel

Days 4-5: Takayama
A thrilling ride on the Shinkansen (bullet train) brings you to Nagoya and then on to Takayama. Set in the remote mountains of the Hida Region, Takayama is renowned for its skilful artisans and sake breweries. Explore the Old Town on foot, stopping at some of the traditional old houses and delightful local museums and wander a vibrant morning market. Gain an insight in to the rich history of the area at the Takayama History & Art Museum before enjoying an afternoon at leisure. Hotel: Best Western Hotel Takayama

Days 6-10: Kyoto and Hiroshima
Relish some free time to explore Takayama before taking the Shinkansen to Kyoto, filled with shrines and temples, countless teahouses and a thriving geisha culture. Explore the historic Gion region then amble amongst the city’s lovely gardens. Be enlightened at the Buddhist Kiyomizudera Temple and gaze upon the gorgeous Golden Pavilion. Enjoy an exclusive Maiko dinner and performance in Kyoto, and learn about the lives of the apprentice Geishas. Take a day trip to reinvented Hiroshima to visit the informative Bomb Museum, Peace Memorial and Miyajima Island. Enjoy a free day in Kyoto on day 9 or perhaps visit Nara, which is close to Kyoto.
