Travel

Attractions
Visit Wat Visoun, the site of the impressive Thad Makmo stupa. Climb 350 steps to the top of Phou Sii Hill for commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Visit Wat Mai, built in 1796 and epitomising the graceful Luang Prabang architectural style.
The National Museum, once a king’s palace, displays a collection of personal artefacts of the royal family. Above all Luang Prabang is a wonderful town for just walking and taking in the sights. A trip on the Mekong River is also recommended.
When to go
The dry season for Luang Prabang is from November through to April. The rainy season is generally from May to October. The annual average temperature is 24°C-25°C, with high humidity. The hottest period is around March to May when temperatures can soar to 37°C, the coldest and wettest month is usually August when temperatures can drop to 15°C.
