Guide to Koh Samui & Hotels
Koh Samui, Thailand’s third largest island, is smaller, quieter and less developed than Phuket. Life is lived at a gentle pace and although the main beach resort of Chaweng now boasts a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants, much of the rest of the island is relatively quiet and unspoilt and offers beautiful sandy beaches. |
Travel
Koh Samui is well served with flights from Bangkok, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Phuket as well as Singapore and Hong Kong. The flying time from Bangkok is 60 minutes. We can arrange for you to be met on arrival and privately transferred to your Samui accommodation, from £15 per person.
Guide to the beaches
Situated on Koh Samui’s east coast, Chaweng is the island’s longest beach, with four miles of powder- soft sand. It has the island’s largest concentration of accommodation and is by far the busiest and liveliest part of the island with a noisy social scene at night. Lamai, to the south of Chaweng, attracts surfers and offers a laid-back atmosphere. The north coast features the beaches of Maenam, Bo Phut and Bang Rak; all of which are ideal places for those who want to get away from it all. The secluded west coast beaches are remote but offer superb sunset views.
When to go
February to June is the hot and dry season with temperatures touching 40°C. May to September have some short, sharp downpours but are cooler months with temperatures in the mid to late 30°C and calmer seas. The rainy season extends from October through to January.
