Guide to Krabi & Hotels
Krabi, located 500 miles south of Bangkok on Thailand’s south-west coast, offers white-sand beaches, backed by dense rainforest and lapped by clear waters; some of the best in Thailand. The superb beaches to the south of Ao Nang, set beneath towering overhanging rock walls, are still only accessible by a scenic boat ride. The nearby beautiful islands of Phi Phi are easily accessible from Krabi. |
Travel
Krabi is well served with regular scheduled flights from Bangkok, with a flying time of 70 minutes. Krabi’s airport is located five miles from Krabi town and 17 miles from Ao Nang, Krabi’s main beach resort. We can arrange for you to be met and privately transferred to your resort. Guide to the beaches
Ao Nang is undoubtedly the centre of the tourist scene in Krabi, with the greatest concentration of bars, cafes and restaurants. The beach is pretty though unspectacular but offers the safest swimming in the region. Klong Muang and Tubkaak beaches are located to the north of Ao Nang and offer a quieter, more relaxed environment with superb sea views and direct access to beautiful white sand beaches. The resorts here tend to be luxurious and self-contained; outside of these resorts there are only a handful of shops and restaurants.
When to go
The ideal time to visit is November to April, the hot and dry season when there are generally calm seas and clear blue skies. The rainy season, from May to October, is cooler but days are punctuated with short sharp downpours. Average temperatures throughout the year vary between 28- 32°C but reach 36°C during March and April.
